About me

Hey there! I'm Saam.

I enjoy building products that leverage machine learning to make the world a better place - from fighting online fraudsters to making our roads safer, to helping the USGS better manage our public lands. Through the years I have gone from directly building these systems, to empowering high performance teams to do 10x what I could achieve by myself.

After building recommendation engines and fraud systems at Apple, I joined Sift where not only did I get to build ML products, but also the platforms that power them. More recently, at Motive, I built platforms that stream IoT and video data from millions of trucks to build models that improve driver safety and fleet operations. It's been a fulfilling journey, saving lives and improving the livelihood and efficiency of millions of fleets that keep our economy going and put food on our shelves.

At the heart of my leadership style? I value being principled and building on a solid foundation of trust. I'm passionate about building work environments that give teams autonomy, help people grow, are high performance and high empathy.

On other dimensions, I am all about personal productivity and always curious to fine-tune work processes to free up cycles. I try to get out in nature as much as possible and practice my photography so I can capture the best representation of all that the world has to offer.

In this blog / newsletter, I'm hoping to share my learnings along the way in case they can be helpful to other eng leaders and builders along their journey.
